Delivering a comprehensive, easy to use mobile solution to support social care recording has been the nirvana for many social work professionals. The ability to be engaged with Children and Young People, or support delivery of outcome-focussed services for Adults, and not be tied to the desk and the ‘computer’, has been cited on numerous occasions.
Eileen Munro stated in her progress report that social care needed locally owned and flexible IT solutions that support the narration of a child’s journey and informed joint working, and in AzeusCare mobile, we have delivered that, not only for Children’s but Adults’ Services too, where the volumes of assessments, reviews and support planning can be more easily managed whilst not tied to an office.
The user interface of AzeusCare Mobile is similar to the intuitive user interface of the main system. Users without any training can easily relate to the system and intuitively know how to use it. To further improve usability, AzeusCare Mobile maximises mobile device capabilities such as the touch screen interface and GPS. The mobile application can be used to assist service users in completion of self-assessments. It can also be used to show completed forms and capture consent of service users.
Using this functionality, a social care professional can ‘download’ forms, support plans and assessments to a device (iPad, Android or tablet device), visit the family or Older Person and record necessary details during the visit. The social care professional can complete a number of visits with a range of plans and assessments for different individuals in their schedule. The forms are automatically uploaded to the system whenever a WiFi network is available – and that does not have to be in the office, it can be over secure networks as appropriate.
The device can also be used to connect to the database in real time within the authority’s own secure network arrangements, allowing real-time updates of the system, synchronising plans or adding case notes, for example. One of the recognised benefits that those trialling the system have noticed, is the quick and easy consent and sign off that the mobile solution can achieve. A social care professional can complete, all or elements of, an assessment with a service user and then ask the person to sign the form there and then, saving the time that would be required for taking the assessment back to a location to be printed, then sending it to the service user and actually ensuring they sign and return it.
